The Saut du Doubs, a waterfall for two
On the Swiss border, near Villers-le-Lac, the river plunges into a spectacular waterfall, the Saut du Doubs. You can reach it by boat across Lake Chaillexon, between cliffs and forests, or on foot along a pretty trail. A perfect outing for a first date: you walk, you marvel, and the conversation flows naturally.
Lake Saint-Point and Joux Castle
Around Malbuisson, Lake Saint-Point, one of the largest natural lakes in France, is great for swimming, picnics or a boat trip depending on the season. Nearby, on the road to Pontarlier, Joux Castle has guarded a strategic pass between France and Switzerland for centuries; its legends and dungeons make for a thrilling visit to share.
Snow, Comté and chalets
In winter, the Haut-Doubs becomes a cross-country skiing paradise, with hundreds of kilometres of trails and the Mont d’Or, the highest point in the department, as a backdrop. After the effort, nothing beats a Comté fondue or a warm baked Mont d’Or cheese by the fire. On Lyad, Doubs members share these seasonal pleasures; it is up to you to find your hiking partner.
